Doreen Kilfeather, Covered, from the series, Buí

This captivating collection of photographs, shot on location at Bothar Buí, West Cork, features the photographer’s daughter and fashion by Simone Rocha. Themes of retreat, domesticity, women and nature are woven through the images which were created in winter and summer seasons 2020/21.

The inaugural publication, presented by THREAD Editions, connects to the legacy of THREAD magazine, showcasing contemporary Irish talent in fashion, photography and design on a curated print platform.

Previously exhibited at Sarah Walker Gallery in June 2024, these images were shot on medium format film. A selection of limited editions printed on Hahnemühle fine art paper and Japanese Awagami papers are available on request.

Bothar Buí is located on a secluded hillside on the Beara peninsula. Designed by renowned Irish architect Robin Walker, this modernist assemblage of farm buildings and contemporary structures works has been a retreat for artists, writers, poets, musicians, families and friends since the 1960s.

  • Doreen Kilfeather is a Dublin-based photographer specialising in portraiture and fashion photography.

A deep understanding of light and shadow, and a sense of intimacy and connection define her work. Her personal projects focus on her family and friends and their children. She returns to these communities of friends each year to document the feeling of being a child, an adolescent, a young adult, in portraits that capture both the person and a sense of the place they occupy.

Her work has been featured in publications such as Irish Tatler, Image, Cara, The Gloss, Boys by Girls and Faire magazine.

  • Aisling Farinella is a stylist, creative director and consultant working across fashion and cultural platforms. A sought after stylist, her work is featured in prominent Irish and international publications, working closely with leading Irish artistic talents, designers and clients. Her individual styling aesthetic is conveyed through a naturalistic approach and a love for elevating portraiture through fashion.

Aisling is Consulting Fashion Editor at Irish Tatler, a Board Director of the IDI and course lead for the CFA NCAD Professional Diploma in Fashion Communication. Her personal projects include a role as co-creative director and editor of Thread magazine (2011 - 2018), which positioned a new era of Irish fashion industry talent on an international platform.
