Accessibility at the museum

At Photo Museum Ireland we believe that photography is for everyone and we are committed to providing an accessible space for our visitors.

GETTING TO US

Photo Museum Ireland is located in the heart of Temple Bar in Dublin 2. It’s easy to get to by public transport and there are many restaurants and cafes close by. Entry can be from Eustace Street (East entrance), Essex Street E (North entrance), or via Sycamore Street (West entrance)

Please note that outside the building is a large square with smooth surfaces and surrounding streets have a cobblestone surface. If you are in a wheelchair, we recommend coming from either Essex Street East or via Sycamore Street as there are steps from Eustace Street.

There are no stairs to enter the building and the lift is accessible directly from the ground floor.

AUTISM FRIENDLY SERVICES

At Photo Museum Ireland we are on a journey to make our museum autism friendly. We have implemented the following measures to minimise the effects of sensory stimulus on autistic people through effective communications, sensory mapping and the provision of p.p.e. equipment. All team members have received Autism awareness training.

Quiet hours or Sensory-Friendly Hours
Quiet hours are specifically designed to welcome people who will benefit from a quieter visit environment, including people with an Autism Spectrum Condition, sensory and communication disorders, or a learning disability. They also benefit people with hidden disabilities and people who require a more flexible environment. Keep an eye out on our Exhibition page for the dedicated quiet hours for each exhibition.

Photo Museum Ireland is thrilled to have implemented a Hearing Loop System. Museum-goers wearing Hearing Aids or Cochlear Implants can enjoy the benefits of the Hearing Loop System at the Museum’s Bookshop Counter. Hearing aid or Cochlear Implant users can simply switch to the ‘Telecoil’ setting to hear the museum assistant for better communication. If your Telecoil mode is not configured or properly set-up, we advise you to consult your audiologist for assistance.
