Transition Year Work Experience

Join our Transition Year Work Experience Programme at Photo Museum Ireland and immerse yourself in the world of contemporary photography.

Our Programme

Our TY Work Experience Programme offers students a unique opportunity to explore photography, creativity, and careers in the arts at Photo Museum Ireland.

What will I do?

This is a chance to experience what it’s like to work in a leading photography and visual arts organisation. Over the week, you’ll take part in creative workshops, team projects, and behind-the-scenes activities. You’ll also meet professionals working in areas like exhibitions, education, and arts management.

Is this placement for me?

If you’re curious about creative careers and have an interest in photography or the arts, this placement could be for you. You don’t need any specific experience – just a passion for visual culture, a willingness to try new things, and an openness to working as part of a group.

Highlights from TY Work Experience 2026

We learned loads about the world of photography from accomplished photographers and professionals and we took part in hands on projects like learning how to shoot film and later how to develop it in the darkroom.”

Liam Hayes, Mary Immaculate College, Lisdoovarna, Co, Clare

Highlights from TY Work Experience 2026

“Listening to everyone’s thought processes and advice about the subject matter was very cool. I also learnt being a photographer isn’t the only career option if photography piques your interest, since so many people are behind exhibitions and publishing etc.”

Nira Cornell, Manor House School, Raheny Dublin
