Youth Panel
Shaping the Future of Photography
We're creating a space for creative exchange, critical thinking and real influence within a national cultural institution.
Photo Museum Ireland’s Youth Panel brings together a dynamic group of young people aged 16–25 to actively shape how contemporary photography is experienced, discussed and shared.
Working alongside artists, curators and museum staff, panel members contribute ideas, perspectives and lived experience that help inform exhibitions, public events and digital content. Their perspectives contribute to the ongoing evolution of the museum’s programme, strengthening dialogue between artists, audiences and new generations of cultural thinkers.
A Platform for
Young Voices
The Youth Panel places young people at the centre of cultural dialogue. Through collaborative sessions, creative projects and public-facing activity, members explore photography as a tool for expression, social awareness and creative experimentation. The programme supports participants to develop confidence, build networks and engage critically with contemporary visual culture.
Skills, Mentorship & Creative Development
Panel members gain hands-on experience across areas of museum practice, exploring photography and facilitation, content creation and public programming. Mentorship from artists and industry professionals provides insight into creative careers while encouraging new ways of thinking about image-making and storytelling.
Participants receive Student Membership, with access to production facilities including the darkroom, scanning resources and reading room, supporting their own artistic development alongside the programme.
Real Impact Within the Museum
The Youth Panel plays an active role in shaping the museum’s programme. Members contribute to exhibition responses, youth-focused events and digital initiatives, helping to expand how audiences engage with photography today. Their contributions inform future programming and strengthen the museum’s commitment to inclusive, participatory practice.
A Space to Connect, Create & Lead
At its core, the Youth Panel is about community – a supportive environment where young people can meet peers, share ideas and take creative risks. Whether developing new skills, exploring their photographic practice or building toward a future in the arts, participants are encouraged to take ownership of their voice and vision.
The Photo Museum Ireland Youth Panel Programme is kindly supported by The Heritage Council.
