Photo Museum Ireland welcomed a full house for the opening of Empathy Machine, the first Irish presentation of this work by award-winning Finnish artist and researcher Maija Tammi.
Guests heard opening remarks from Photo Museum Ireland Senior Curator Tanya Kiang, the artist Maija Tammi, and Saara Heinola, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Finland in Ireland, who spoke to the strength of collaboration between Ireland and Finland in the arts.
The evening marked the beginning of our Science Week programme, which brings together artists, scientists, and curious minds for talks, tours, family workshops and dedicated quiet hours. Across the week, audiences will have the chance to explore the intersections of empathy, storytelling, neuroscience, and photography – all themes at the core of Tammi’s immersive installation.
We extend warm thanks to everyone who joined us, and to our partners at the Finnish Museum of Photography, the Finnish Cultural Foundation, the Finnish Institute, the Embassy of Finland in Ireland, and Taighde Éireann / Research Ireland for their support.
Empathy Machine runs until 1 February 2026 at Photo Museum Ireland. Visitors are invited to experience this striking, thought-provoking exhibition and take part in our ongoing Science Week events.
