Photo Museum of Ireland is excited to launch a 5-day summer camp for teenagers who want to experience all things photography!
Join photographer and visual artist Róisín White who will lead the group of students through various photography techniques and styles while using all of the facilities and materials Photo Museum Ireland has to offer.
We will spend the week learning how to use digital and film cameras while exploring different creative themes and ideas. We will experiment in the darkroom learning traditional black and white printing techniques, we will create photographs using light and dark, using collage, and even using sculpture!
Students will get a chance to try portrait photography, still life photography, street photography, putting their own create stamp on their images and learning some DIY hacks along the way.
Together we will look at how photographs can tell a story, how we read those images, and how we present them to the world can create new meanings.
Throughout the week the students will make a body of work that they will present in Photo Museum’s Project Space and will create a small publication of their collective work to take home and share.
This summer camp is a great opportunity to try out all that photography has to offer, meet other young artists, and create a collection of photographs.
All students attending the summer camp must have a consent form that has been completed and signed by their parent or guardian. Participation will not be possible without a completed form.
Students should bring a packed lunch.
About the teacher:
Róisín White is a visual artist and arts facilitator based in Ireland. She primarily works with photography, with diverse interests in mixed media sculpture. Róisín holds a BA (Hons) in Photography from DIT, and certificates in Ceramics, Sculpture and Drawing from NCAD.
Róisín has worked with children and young people within her visual arts practice for over 10 years, working both collaboratively, and in a facilitation role. She is inspired by the sense of play and curiosity that young people show while making art, and strives to create an environment that gives young people the space and confidence to try things out and be led by their own interests. Recent youth-led projects have included working with PhotoIreland, The Ark Children’s Cultural Centre, Greywood Arts and the National Space Station in Cork, and Landskrona Foto in Sweden.
She has exhibited her work extensively across Ireland and Europe, with recent solo exhibitions in The Library Project and Pallas Projects. Her photobook “Lay Her Down Upon Her Back” was published by Landskrona Breadfield (Sweden) and Witty Books (Italy) in 2023.
Her work in Ireland has kindly been supported by The Arts Council, the Dublin City Arts Office, and the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council. She is currently the artist in residence at The Baths Studios in Dún Laoghaire from 2023 – 2025.
