Basic understanding of Darkroom photography practice is essential.
Workshop description:
Join us at Photo Museum Ireland for a unique, full-day workshop led by artist-in-residence Eamonn Doyle. This is a unique opportunity to delve into Doyle’s evolving hybrid darkroom practice developed during his residency at Photo Museum Ireland’s darkroom in preparation of the forthcoming ‘AS IF, 2026, Eamonn Doyle, Niall Sweeney, David Donohoe’ exhibition due to launch in early 2026.
This workshop offers participants the chance to discover the innovative processes behind the creation of Doyle’s new silver gelatin photographic prints and photograms in Photo Museum Ireland’s artist in residence darkroom facilities. Sign up now to learn about these exciting new techniques and create your own large-format exhibition quality contact print, guided by Eamonn’s expertise.
What will I learn?
Morning Session: We will start the day with a table discussion exploring Doyle’s photobook catalogue, offering an introduction to his world of photography book production and the power of collaboration. We will examine Doyle’s significant body of work, including his extensive range of publications and presentation styles.
Afternoon Session: Following a short break, participants will be introduced to the process and technology required for digital negative preparation and darkroom silver gelatin printing. We will then move to the darkroom to use Eamonn’s innovative setup for exhibition printmaking. The goal will be to produce your very own exhibition-quality print on 16 inch x 20 inch Warm Tone Ilford Glossy fibre paper. After printing, finished prints will be washed and left to dry for 48 hours before they are ready for collection. Advice on framing, glass and presentation will be provided.
This full day workshop will be filled with opportunities to chat with Eamonn about his global experiences in the world of photography, making, exhibiting and publishing.
After the workshop: Each participant will receive 3 hours free Darkroom time on completion of the workshop that can be redeemed at a future date in 2026.

Eamonn Doyle
Born in Dublin in 1969, Eamonn studied painting and photography at college, graduating in 1991. He spent much of the next two decades producing and publishing music, during which he also founded the Dublin Electronic Arts Festival alongside the record labels D1 Recordings and Dead Elvis. He returned to photography in 2008. His debut photo-book i, 2014, was described by Martin Parr as ‘the best street photo-book in a decade’. This was followed by ON, 2015, and the award-winning End., 2016, which together with i, became known as his Dublin trilogy, culminating in a ground-breaking immersive exhibition at Rencontres d’Arles 2016. Though most of this work was produced in and around the Dublin city centre location where he has lived for over twenty years, Eamonn’s most recent bodies of work have taken him to the wild Atlantic coast of Ireland and to the volcanic landscapes of Extremadura in Spain [K, 2018], and back to his suburban home in south Dublin [O, 2020] . Eamonn still lives and works where it all began, just off Parnell Street in Dublin, with the D1 Recordings studio still operating from the basement. In 2024 Eamonn was awarded The David Octavius Hill Medal by The German Photographic Academy.
