This workshop will explore the possibilities of image-making through photograms and chemigrams. Tutor and artist Jane Cummins will take you through these experimental processes.

You will be briefly introduced to both photogram and chemigram processes; then, you will head to the darkroom and learn how to prepare the chemicals for producing your images.

We will be using photographic paper and exposing it to light, and learning how to develop and fix the images we create. The results are incredibly effective, visually stunning black-and-white photographs made without a camera.

We will then move on to the Chemigram process.

Chemigrams are photographic images made by painting on light-sensitive paper.

You will explore various application methods and techniques to develop your chemigrams and look at how everyday household items like coffee, lemon, toothpaste, etc., can be applied to photosensitive paper to create unique images.

The photos have a watercolour-like appearance, and the opportunities to experiment are limitless.

About the tutor.

Jane Cummins is an Irish photographer based in Dublin and is a graduate of the MFA Photography program at the Belfast School of Art, Ulster University. Her practice involves self-portraiture and landscape, focusing on self-exploration and identity.
