Project Statement:
Cloigteach
Cloigteach explores the relationship between ancient structures from early Christian Ireland, and emergent technologies. Round towers, also known as Bell Houses or ‘Cloigteach’ date from the 10th century and are synonymous with one of Ireland’s most well-known monastic sites in Glendalough. These futuristic towers are emblematic of an earlier civilisation that continues to resonate in the present. I am reactivating these fascinating structures and sites using archival stereoscopic slides and audio software. The process involves transcoding monastic images into visual sound waves, the resulting moving images reanimates these ancient sites evoking a Celtic Futurism.
