My name is Morena Banozic. I am from Croatia but for the last seven years I am positioned in Drogheda, Ireland. I am finishing my studies at TUD BA Photography course and continuing my studies for MAs Creative Digital Media and UX. I am passionate about testing different mediums to create my photographic projects, such as collage, montage, cyanotype and analog photography as well as using graphic elements in my work. Apart from my college experience, I have been involved in the first Drogheda Zine Fair in the beginning of 2024. My future goal is to create work that will challenge the rules of photography.
After Midnight
After Midnight is inspired by the life and legacy of Croatian writer, Marija Juric Zagorka. The project is influenced by Zagorka’s feminist stance and her role as the first Croatian female journalist combating Hungarian influence. It explores themes such as love, religion, gender and women’s rights, but its primary focus lies in depicting the responsibility of the photographer and her agency to challenge social expectations. There are parallels drawn between the challenges faced by Zagorka and those in my own life, particularly as a female artist living away from Croatia. Ultimately, the project celebrates my Croatian roots, exploring aspects of Croatian culture but equally the experience of loneliness in a foreign country and certain conflictual feelings about patriotism.
