Graduating with a First-Class Honours degree in Photography from the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT). Evanna Devine is a young Irish artist from Belfast. Her work is driven by a keen focus on socially engaged projects. She holds an important and natural talent for documenting stories within the North. After working for two years with a total of twenty-five women who lost children in tragic circumstances during The Conflict, Evanna determined early in her career that she had a talent for working with people and telling important stories that often remain forgotten. Currently working with the youth centers of Newry town, Evanna Devine’s portraiture continue to offer a contemplation of the inherited complexities of class, Irish heritage, and identity..
Every Glove
Newry sits on the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. It is one of the ten most socially deprived areas of Northern Ireland.
Every Glove tells the story of Craigmore A.B.C., a community-driven club which includes young boxers, aged 5-18, who come from a diverse array of backgrounds. Boxing is a sport historically linked to regions facing significant economic and social challenges.
“Every Glove” is not just about boxing; it is about childhood, culture, and the unwavering support that these children receive from their coaches and mentors. It explores the profound impact of a community-driven club in a region often marred by economic hardship and cultural divisions. This project seeks to highlight the transformative power of boxing in fostering unity and providing a positive outlet for at-risk youth.
