Photo Museum Ireland and Tóchar Midlands Wetland Restoration are pleased to announce photographer Evanna Devine as the recipient of the Women in Nature Photography Commission.

Selected through an international open call, Devine has been awarded a €15,000 commission to create a new body of photographic work documenting women leading nature restoration across Ireland.

Evanna Devine is an award-winning artist from Belfast whose practice centres on long-term, community-led storytelling. Her work explores themes of identity, class, place and belonging, often developed through sustained collaboration with communities and individuals over extended periods of time. This approach made her a compelling choice for a project rooted in listening, relationship-building and the careful representation of lived experience.

Artists’ Photography Commission includes:

€15,000 Artists’ Commission Award

A public exhibition at the national centre for contemporary photography

A bespoke publication recording the project and a nationwide exhibition tour

The resulting series will comprise portraits of 12 nominated women working across a broad range of environmental fields, including peatland restoration, regenerative agriculture, biodiversity protection, environmental education, river restoration, community engagement and climate action. Alongside these portraits, Devine will photograph the landscapes and habitats connected to their work, creating a powerful visual record of the people and places shaping Ireland’s environmental future.

Presented by Tóchar Midlands Wetland Restoration in partnership with Photo Museum Ireland, Women in Nature seeks to highlight the significant contribution women are making to restoring ecosystems, protecting biodiversity and strengthening communities across Ireland.

This commission makes visible the important work of women in nature, sharing their achievements with audiences and communities nationally and internationally through public programmes. We look forward to seeing Evanna Devine’s creative responses to this wonderful commission

The completed commission will premiere through a major exhibition, publication and public programme produced by Photo Museum Ireland in 2026 before touring nationally.

As Ireland responds to the interconnected challenges of biodiversity loss and climate change, Women in Nature will create a lasting photographic record of the individuals helping to shape that transition. Through portraiture and landscape photography, the project will bring visibility to work that is often carried out quietly and locally, while contributing to wider conversations about restoration, stewardship and environmental change.

Further details on the participating women, exhibition and public programme will be announced in the coming months.
