Beyond Basics - Black & White Photography Darkroom Printing

This analog printing workshop led by Edu Vargas will give you the skills required for great Silver Gelatine Photograph printing.

What will I learn?

  • How to set up for a great printing session

  • Burning and Dodging techniques to enhance the print

  • What contrast is and how to do split-grading with variable contrast paper

  • What is a Working Print and a Fine Print

  • Differences between RC paper and Fiber Paper

  • What Toning is ( Selenium/ Sepia and Split-toning )

  • Eduardo will also explain how further workshops in toning and printing with Silver Gelatin paper can really make your negatives reach their full potential.

What we provide?

We will provide all chemicals and photographic paper needed for the duration of the workshop.

Edu is clearly a passionate analogue photography advocate! Knows his stuff and was all too happy to share past failures and successes from his own darkroom wizardry! Really went through everything with us and took time to spend some time with each of us in the class. Benefits of a small darkroom!

Darkroom at Photo Museum Ireland

I had a brilliant day at Photo Museum Ireland’s workshop, I started the day with no previous printing experience at all, and I left feeling confident to use a darkroom by myself and excited to experiment further with printing. If you are wanting to “demystify” the darkroom and hone your skills in analogue processes, I would highly recommend the Photo Museum Ireland courses!
