Caleb Daly and Luke Ryan are Irish photographic artists. Working collaboratively on the project, Low Rent!, they challenge the current status quo and the Irish Government and how the ruling class have tackled the current Housing and Cost of living Crisis. Working through the medium of collage and banner making, they draw upon historical iconography of the Irish National Land League and appropriating the signifiers to evoke the same sentimentalities as during The Land War (1879-1882).
Both artists working individually, use similar methodologies such as image appropriation, and experiment with different photographic processes such as in Caleb’s project Cloigteach (2022) and Luke’s Chief Designer (2022). These processes include Sonification and Cyanotype. Both artists collect images from online sources to re-contextualise and draw out new meanings.
