The Heritage Council has allocated in the region of €1,500,000 to this scheme in 2023 to undertake capital works that will apply good heritage practice in managing and improving access to sites, collections, objects (including buildings).
As one of the chosen beneficiaries, Photo Museum Ireland will direct all proceeds into supporting archival standard storage and management systems for the National Photography Collection in line with the Museum Standards Programme of Ireland. In addition, this funding will support the delivery of an Access Audit to provide invaluable information on visitor experience and will inform our strategic planning over the next 5 years.
Photo Museum Ireland established the National Photography Collection in 2021. As the national centre for contemporary photography in Ireland, we initiated the Collection to work with Irish artists and create a museum-standard archive repository of contemporary photographic practices. Building on our deep commitment to supporting artists in the development of their work, we collaborate with artists to preserve their creative legacies for future generations and secure important archives in the canon of Irish photographic artists.
Photo Museum Ireland is delighted to be a recipient of support from the Heritage Community Grant 2023. This funding will support the preservation of Ireland’s photographic artistic heritage, building organisational capacity to secure and share the work of leading Irish photographic artists’ archives now and for the future. The project will also support the Museum to improve and increase access, significantly enhancing visitor experience.
