Resonate
Group Exhibition
Co-curated by Darragh Shanahan and Aisling Farinella
While fashion is commonly connected within its commercial capacity, fashion photography can be timeless and personal– resonating with the viewer as an artistic image
RESONATE presents a contemporary photographic perspective on fashion, reflected through portraiture, textiles, landscape or environment.
Co-curated by Darragh Shanahan for Gallery of Photography and Aisling Farinella for ID2015, it showcases inspirational images and celebrates the talent of Irish photographers working both in Ireland and within the wider context of the international fashion industry.
The exhibition in the Gallery of Photography Ireland
This exhibition presents the work of 23 of the leading names in Irish photography, who find common ground in the dynamic area of fashion: Mike Bunn, Neil Gavin, Alen MacWeeney, Rich Gilligan, Niall O’ Brien, Linda Brownlee, Leonn Ward, Boo Gorge, Ross McDonnell, Nick & Chloe, Perry Ogden, Barry McCall, Andrew Nuding, Sean Jackson, Sarah Doyle, Peter Rowan, Liam Murphy, Conor Clinch, Lee Malone, Eilish McCormick, Josh Gordon, Sean & Yvette, Johnny McMillan. The experience of the group ranges from the established, producing work for top international publications and high-end fashion houses, to emerging homegrown talent who are responsible for our burgeoning creative scene.
The opening night of the exhibition ‘Resonate’
The variety of work showcases the creative strength and diversity of Irish talent working at home and abroad and encourages new audiences to embrace this dynamic area of design. For the exhibition each photographer was asked to select one image from their body of work, produced within a fashion context, which continues to inspire them personally. Place, memory and people played an important role for all of the photographers and the resulting show is quiet and contemplative, words not often associated with the fashion industry.
The exhibition travelled across different parts of Dublin
ID2015 is a year-long government initiative to celebrate and promote Irish design both at home and internationally.
